Recovered Shelties

Cloud's Lost Story

Cloud was found late Friday night, Oct. 22, 2004. Her adopter, Bonnie Norris, writes the following account:

On the day before our PFA's trial, a day when you should be rechecking stuff, loading and packing, I left to take my kids to school at 7:30 am with all the dogs in the fenced back yard.

I got home at 9:20 a.m. ready to tackle the day, and Cloud, my 8 year old daughter's Sheltie and Agility partner had vanished!

Just the night before I had yelled at my daughter while she turned off her lights for bed "don't let that dog on your pillow!" she crinkled her brow and said "But I love the smell of my puppy!" and buried her head in the pillow.

That's the only image I had the next day as I raced thru our pastures, drove down our roads, looked in every closet and under the beds and felt my chest ache. How was I going to break it to my daughter that we had lost her "Cloud"?

It was 6 pm and after 7 hours of fruitless searching, we had to get the equipment to the trial sight.

Cloud had to have been stolen. If she ever went out in the pasture with us horseback riding, she would always leave and come back home without us. She was a homebody, never one to sniff and wander. Laying on my daughter's bed waiting for her to come home for school was her pastime of choice. So right before we left we put out a $200 reward sign.

As we headed home from the trial site it began to storm. Cloud was terrified of storms. Exhausted and drained, I called my recorder from my cell phone in hopes someone had read the sign.

There was a message from Equest, they had a dog that might be Cloud wandering around the barns all night. I cried for joy and held my daughter's hand as the minutes home seemed like hours. Would we make it in time before she got hit by a car, struck by lightning, ran further away, or arrive in time only to find out it wasn't her?

As we pulled into the Equest parking lot, my daughter opened the door of our van and before she could say "Cloud," my daughter saw her bolting down the road and straight into her arms! Cloud was soaking wet, covered in mud and shivering, but seemed unharmed.

After we got home, gave her a warm bath and blow dry, I had a moment to reflect on what had happened.

We have been doing Demos for Equest ( a hippotherapy facility dedicated to using horses to help kids with severe mental and physical disabilities) every summer for years . It's a grueling job in the sweltering 100+ degree heat and dirt. But things had come full circle, our giving had given back......it's really weird how things work out sometimes.

That night as my daughter and Cloud lay cuddled up together, I fluffed her extra pillow up next to her head and moved Cloud to it. After all, a dog like Cloud deserves as good a spot next to my child as the Tooth Fairy......

Thanks again for everyone's help, concern and efforts. There was an incredible outpouring of help and empathy. You guys are great!

Welcome home, Cloud!!

Sierra has been found!

On November 22, 2002, Sierra went home.  Someone had picked her up, and when he saw a notice about her, he called her owner.  Needless to say, Sierra and owner are a very happy twosome - we understand that Sierra has decided that her new home, from which she had disappeared, isn't so bad after all!.

Goose has been found!

Goose was found Tuesday, April 16, 2001, after being gone for three days. The foster family plastered the neighborhood with fliers, and was eventually seen by someone that recognized him from the pictures.
He was discovered running in a ditch. After a short chase, Goose just gave up, simply lying down in the alley, right in back of the foster parent's home. Nice work, Goose! After a vet check, Goose is back home, preferring to stay away from the front door, thank you!!
